I Don't Boycott Too Often

But the recent clubbing deaths of 55,000 dogs in the Yunnan province of China, will lead me to check labels when I'm shopping in the near future. A rabies outbreak caused government officials to call for the execution of canines. Might have been a good idea to maybe vaccinate dogs a few months ago, but I suppose a government like China was probably too busy stepping on citizens' rights, wreaking havoc on the environment with its massive push to over-industrialize, and demanding a greater world voice since they're such a "major force" on the planet now. Yup, probably too busy to worry about the health of their citizens. Easier just to club to death a few thousand dogs.

Rant over. Boycott just beginning.

Still tired from a 2 day stint at the sauna formerly known as the Freeborn Co Fair. Monday was set-up day. I dripped all over the Conservation Building as we prepared our Audubon booth. I hate dripping. It's so unlady-like. It's also very uncomfortable. I try to avoid dripping whenever I can. Monday, I couldn't.

Tuesday I was dripping again. I got caught in a deluge on my way to the grandstand where I spent the next 8 hours "shilling" for a volunteer foundation. A fan in my booth kept me from dripping during my shift, but the temp and humidity still made it a LONG day. The only recreation I had during slow times came from political sources. I sat across the intersection from the Republican and Democrat booths which sit on opposite sides of the aisle (very fitting) under the grandstand. I was hoping for an entertaining food fight to break out, but civility reigned....at least on Tuesday. Maybe, by the end of the week, things will get more interesting, but I'll be in another building and won't get to witness it. Since raucous behavior was kept to a minimum, I had to find my jollies in other ways, so I tried to guess the political affectations of the citizens who stopped at the booths. Was the guy in the plaid shirt a card-carrying member of the NRA? Was the aging hippy still leaning radically to the left? Was the bookish, bun-wearing matron anti-abortion or was she a free-thinking, razor-banning feminist? I let my preconceived notions run wild and kept myself entertained for hours.

Still, a good, old-fashioned Donkey/Elephant food fight would have been a kick.....

Til later,

Drink plenty of water
